Young AFL superstar Connor Rozee shares baby news just months after engagement to Maisie Packer

Port Adelaide superstar Connor Rozee’s whirlwind year continues to spin.

Earlier this month the 23-year-old was appointed captain of his club and signed a massive eight-year contract extension.

Now — after proposing to his long-time partner Maisie Packer in October — he has revealed he is expecting a child.

Taking to Instagram, Rozee published an elegant black-and-white photo of himself hugging Packer’s pregnant belly.

“Best Christmas present ever 👶🍼🩷,” he wrote.

Needless to say, fans and friends of the popular AFL player were quick to react.

Rozee shared the exciting news on Instagram Credit: Instagram

“The best ever, so happy for you two ❤️❤️,” Kellie Finlayson (the wife of Rozee’s teammate Jeremy Finlayson) wrote.

Rozee’s good mate and newly crowned vice-captain Zak Butters also added to the flood of messages.

Double dose of good news for emerging AFL superstar

AFL superstar announces engagement: ‘Forever with you’

“@Mitch Georgiades (another young Port star), we got the baby sitting covered 🤝,” Butters wrote.

Port Adelaide Football Club also shared the news, writing, “Baby Rozee coming soon 🥹,” while passing on their congratulations.

And unofficial Port account, PortAdelaideHQ, said: “Big last month for the King of Adelaide! Congrats mate.”

Packer’s sister, Winnie Mckinnon said: “Just the best news!!! So excited to enter my Aunty era!! 🫶🏼🤍😂”

Rozee enjoyed his best year in the AFL this season, earning All-Australian honours for the second time after averaging 25 disposals and kicking 21 goals.

He also polled 21 votes to finish in the top 10 of the Brownlow Medal and firmly establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the competition.

He also finished second behind great mate Zak Butters in the best fairest after winning the award last year.

After a disappointing finals campaign, the Power completely overhauled their leadership, dumping former vice-captain Ollie Wines and Darcy Byrne-Jones and making young guns Rozee and Butters the new leaders.

After the announcement, coach Ken Hinkley called Rozee a “generational player” and said he was “absolutely ready” to lead the club.

“He leads by example on game-day, he works his backside off at training and prepares week in and week out like an absolute professional,” Hinkley said.

“Importantly, he demonstrates genuine care for his teammates and continually drives our culture internally.

“Connor is a very mature 23-year old and is a credit to himself and his family as to how he continues to grow as an individual.

“He represents everything a Port Adelaide captain should represent. He’s skillful, brave, team-first, selfless, humble. As coach, I can’t ask for any more in a captain.”

Rozee said he was humbled and it was a huge honour to lead a club that was more than 150 years’ old.

“It’s so humbling to follow in the footsteps of club greats such as Russell Ebert, Gavin Wanganeen, Matthew Primus, Travis Boak, the list just goes on and on,” he said.

“To wear the No.1 guernsey is something I’m incredibly proud of and I won’t take for granted.

“I feel I’m ready to lead our group moving forward. No doubt I’ll learn along the way but I know I’ll have great support from the rest of my leadership group and also former captains Ollie Wines and Travis Boak.”
