West Coast draftee Archer Reid joins premiership player Dom Sheed on injury list

West Coast draftee Archer Reid has suffered an injury blow just weeks into his first AFL pre-season, with Eagles premiership hero Dom Sheed also struck down again.

Sheed was spotted wearing a moon boot on his famous left leg while being relegated to autograph duties at a school clinic on Tuesday.

West Coast later confirmed the 28-year-old has a ‘hot spot’ in his foot — a similar issue that ended his 2023 season a month early.

“This is new to me, seeing Dommy in a moon boot, so this is the first few days he’s been in it,” teammate Reuben Ginbey told reporters.

“I’m not quite sure what he’s done but hopefully it’s just something small and he can be back training with us soon.”

Sheed tallied 15 games in between his troubles this year after missing all but one game in 2022 with ankle and leg injuries.

Reid, 18, has an unspecified knee issue and has been forced to wear a brace.

West Coast announced Reid and Sheed would have their pre-season training loads ‘modified’ while they assess the issues.

The full Eagles list is due to train in Dunsborough on Wednesday to conclude a community camp in the coastal town three hours south of Perth.

Sheed was at the local primary school on Tuesday with Ginbey, who grew up in Dunsborough and went to the school.

Several Eagles ran a clinic on Monday where No.1 pick Harley Reid was ‘king of the kids’ and battled some keen young footy players in a push-up challenge.

Meanwhile, West Coast have confirmed list boss Rohan O’Brien has stepped down after 33 years at the club.

“With the recent draft completed I believe it is the right time to make this call,” O’Brien said in a statement.

“For the last three years we have focused on attracting the best young talent as we begin to build our list and I believe we are at an exciting juncture.

“We are in the process of a significant transition as we now have one of the youngest lists in the competition and I look forward to seeing the club rise.

“It has been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be involved in the club and I would like to thank all of the people I have worked so closely with in the recruiting area, the respective general managers of football and staff across the club for that I have worked alongside for the last 33 years.

“I would particularly like to acknowledge the outstanding and unwavering support I have received from chief executive Trevor Nisbett over the journey and I look forward to watching the club climb back up the ladder.”

O’Brien adds to the departures of Nisbett, fitness boss Warren Kofoed, captain Luke Shuey as well as a stack of other veteran players.
