How Sydney muscled in on Brodie Grundy, Trent Cotchin to ‘wrestle’ Damien Hardwick

The race for Melbourne’s out-of-favour ruck Brodie Grundy has taken an intriguing twist.

Port Adelaide’s coach Ken Hinkley and young stars Connor Rozee and Zak Butters met with Grundy in a bid to lure the big man back to his home state of South Australia.

But the Sydney Swans are now in the box seat after talking up a lifestyle outside of the AFL bubble. 7NEWS reporter Mitch Cleary will bring you all the latest details on Grundy, plus more trade news, in Seven’s Talking Finals, tonight at 9.15pm AEST.

Analysis, local footy and the biggest moments, Seven and 7plus are the home of footy shows for every fan. Stream them all for free on 7plus >>

Now that they are out of the Grundy race, Port Adelaide looks set to secure fringe Western Bulldogs ruck Jordon Sweet, with the latter requesting a trade to the Power.

Also joining tonight’s show is three-time premiership mastermind Damien Hardwick.

He has since joined Gold Coast but tonight he will be facing off against his former captain Trent Cotchin.

Last week Cotchin was asked by Talking Finals host James Brayshaw how would he tackle Dimma.

“He looks horrible in red, for starters,” was Cotchin’s swift reply.

“I can’t wait to (have) a crack (at Dimma). I don’t like my chances but (I look forward to) having a little wrestle with him on the desk here.”

Talking Finals will air at 9.15pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7plus for Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth viewers. Sydney and Brisbane can watch the show from 11.50pm.

All episodes will be available for streaming on the AFL Hub on 7plus, along with The Front Bar, Armchair Experts, match previews and reviews, plus interviews, bonus player access and features on demand.

As we count down to the last Saturday in September, footy fans can also tune in to the 2023 Brownlow Medal and AFL Grand Final, live, free and in HD (data charges may apply) from anywhere – exclusively on 7plus.

“We know Australians are hungry for high quality and relevant footy news, views and analysis from the biggest names in the game,” managing director Seven Melbourne and head of network sport Lewis Martin said.

“We’ve assembled a panel of experts who truly know finals success. With 10 flags between them, nobody knows September better than Joel Selwood, Trent Cotchin and Tim Watson.

“Having achieved the ultimate prize in recent years, Joel and Trent will pull back the curtain and take us into the minds of current players, coaches and clubs as they eye the last Saturday in September.

“Do not miss a minute when we go inside the inner sanctum with the biggest names to have tasted recent success, right here on Seven, your home of footy.”
