Duursma family reunites in Victoria as Yasmine nominates preferred new AFLW home

The Duursma family’s three AFL/AFLW players will reunite in Victoria after Yasmine Duursma sought a move away from Port Adelaide.

But the 19-year-old will not join younger brother Zane at North Melbourne or follow Xavier, 23, from the Power to Essendon.

Yasmine has instead opted to nominate Carlton as her preferred new home.

Yasmine has played the past two seasons with Port Adelaide since agreeing to be drafted to a South Australian club last year.

The midfielder made four appearances in her first campaign and seven this year.

Fans baffled by ‘ridiculous’ venue for AFLW grand final

First clue dropped on Dustin Martin’s impending ‘big decision’

With Port only managing two wins in 2023, and having watched Xavier move to Victoria, Yasmine decided it was time to move on.

The AFL website reports she has chosen to join the Blues over the Kangaroos.

Yasmine’s move won’t be official until the trade period opens on December 7.

North, who will play in the AFLW grand final this Sunday against Brisbane, loomed as a strong option after Zane arrived at Arden St this month.

He was selected by the Kangaroos with pick No.4 in last week’s AFL draft.

The Duursma children are expected to achieve a perfect four from four on reaching the AFL when the 2025 draft rolls around.

Youngest sibling Willem was named this year’s Vic Country MVP following starring performances at the under-16 carnival.

The quartet’s uncle Jamie Duursma played 59 VFL/AFL games at Sydney, Brisbane Bears and Melbourne, including the 1988 grand final for the Dees.

Injuries ended his career in league football at the age of 25.

Elsewhere in the AFLW, the Sydney Swans have made their first list move after being beaten in the semi-finals.

Jenny Higgins, Sarah Ford, Jaide Anthony, Kiara Beesley and Kate Reynolds were all told they would not be offered a contract for 2024.

Higgins, 31, arrived from Ireland this year but did not play a game after suffering an ACL injury in the pre-season, while Beesley was also sidelined by a knee injury in her second year with the team.

Reynolds made only two appearances as injuries took their toll on her campaign.

Anthony and Ford tallied three and two games respectively for Sydney in the AFLW.

“We thank Jenny, Sarah, Jaide, Kiara and Kate for their valuable contribution to the club,” Swans AFLW football boss Kate Mahony said.

“This is one of the toughest parts of our job, where list management decisions have to be made.

“Each of these players had a role at this club and contributed to the fabric of our team. Whilst their path is taking a different direction, we thank them for their time in the red and white.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we wish them all the very best for the future.”
